Digging Deeper

Motus Humanus provides preliminary consultation on research ideas and encourages members to apply for seed money grants.

The grants are designed to support the planning and initiation of Laban-based movement research projects by fully trained movement analysts who are working professionally in a field of movement study.

Projects funded to date have included the following:

  • Semiotic analysis of film acting, Dr. Patricia Marek
  • The impact of movement on rehabilitation from head injury, Clyde Rae Jolie
  • Preservation of Warren Lamb’s Movement Pattern Analysis archives, in collaboration with The National Resource Centre for Dance, University of Surrey, England
  • Preparation of DVD-based educational materials on dance phrasing, culminating in the publication of Vera Maletic, Dance Dynamics: Workbook and DVD Companion (Columbus, OH: Grade A Notes, 2005)
  • Motion capture research on Laban’s Choreutic prototypes, in collaboration with Ohio University College of Fine Arts, Professor Madeleine Scott
