CALL FOR PAPERS

Motus Humanus Roundtable on Professional Issues
June 8-10, 2012
Claremont, California

PROPOSAL GUIDELINES

CONFERENCE THEME: “CREATIVE USES OF LABAN THEORY”

There is nothing more useful than a good theory. The seminal ideas of polymath Rudolf Laban (1879-1958) continue to inspire creative individuals who find novel ways to apply Laban’s dynamic concepts in many different endeavors.

This Roundtable showcases creative work of all types that draws upon Laban theory for inspiration.

Choreographers, dancers, actors, directors, composers, conductors, animators, therapists, consultants, movement educators and coaches, athletes, fitness specialists, and other innovators and entrepreneurs are invited to show their work and discuss how they apply Laban’s ideas to facilitate their creative and/or problem-solving processes.

Please note that proposals must incorporate two dimensions:

  1. Presentation of the presenter’s creative work in a well-focused and abridged form, and
  2. Lucid articulation of the relationship of the work to aspects of Laban theory.

PRESENTATION FORMATS

  1. Lecture-demonstration. These individual presentations should be programmed for a duration of 45 minutes, which is inclusive of presentation of a creative work and discussion of how Laban’s ideas were incorporated.
  2. Panel discussion/collaborative presentation. A group presentation consisting of two-four presenters is also welcome. The presentation should be organized around a common topic or area of application. Each panelist should make an individual contribution, and one presenter must serve as a moderator for the session of 90 minutes.
  3. Workshop format. Experiential movement sessions 90 minutes in length are also encouraged. Such sessions showcase the presenter’s creative work experientially, through audience participation. The workshop should also be planned to incorporate time for articulation of the conference theme in relation to the movement experience provided.

PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS

All proposals must include the attached cover sheet with 1) the title of the presentation, 2) type of format, 3) name of the presenter or presenters, and 4) institutional affiliation and contact information of the presenter (lecture-demonstration or workshop) or presenters (panel discussion or collaborative presentation). In addition, please specify space requirements, audio-visual , and other technical needs.

A separate 250-word abstract must be attached. This abstract should include the title and type of presentation. However, the abstract should not include names of the presenter/s.
